Customer Service Sometimes Means a 532 Mile Road Trip...

Customer service is something we pride ourselves on at National Event Supply. It is at the core of our success and we always strive to go the extra mile to help our customers. Today, we went 532 miles to help a customer who desperately needed dishes for an event this weekend. We don't typically do deliveries to Ottawa but a series of events led us on a 9 hour trip to the National Capital Region to make sure the our customer had the dishes they needed.

Ovali Dessert PlateWe received the initial order Thursday morning for the 2100lbs of Ovali Dinnerware and our shipper had it picked, packed and wrapped before 11:00am. He called one of our LTL shipping partners and confirmed that we had an order to go out, and that we needed it picked up today. Our shipping partner called just before 5:00pm and said that they were going to be a little late getting to our location, but that a truck would pick up the skid "shortly". "Shortly" came and went and then our shipping partner went quiet. Unable to contact the customer service desk to find out when they were going to arrive, we decided that they weren't coming that evening. This was a problem as we had a customer who needed these dishes and we had said that they would be arriving the next day.

Dennis, one of the owners of the company, quickly decided we needed a trailer so that we could deliver these dishes. He got into his SUV and headed on up to U-Haul to pick up a trailer. Fate was on our side. U-Haul was supposed to close at 7:00, but luckily there was still someone there who was willing to rent Dennis a trailer. Because of Pauline at the U-Haul on Rexdale in Toronto, Dennis and Jonathan were able to get a trailer. The quickly loaded the dishes into the back of the U-Haul and headed for home.

At 4am on Friday morning, Jonathan and Dennis headed out for Ottawa to get our customer their dishes. They arrived at a little after 8:30am at our customers busy warehouse/showroom. By 3pm, the boys were back in Mississauga, the trailer was back at U-Haul being rented out to someone else, and 2100lbs of Ovali Dinnerware was at it's new home in the National Capital Region.

What can we say? We aim to please.

Products in Action... Big Red Chair Events

When you talk to our sales reps they can tell you how many people can sit around a 60-inch round table (8-10), the size of our square dinner plates (10.25"), and how much weight our plastic folding chairs can hold (225lbs). What they can't fully describe to you is how great the wedding style resin folding chairs look when set up for an event, or how elegant our resin Chiavari chairs look set-up around a well-dressed table. To see our products in action, we've turned to several of our customers and asked for pictures they've taken at recent events. Over the next few months, we'll be spotlighting some of these companies and our products at their events.

10000 sq ft Tent for Big Red Chair Events

This week we've got a couple of pictures from a 10,000sq ft tent installation from Dion Malden at Big Red Chair Events in Vancouver, BC. As you can see from the first picture, the tent was rather large. In the second picture, you can see our White NES Resin Chiavari Chairs set up in front of a stage. The Silver Chiavari Chairs are topped by our White Fabric Chiavari Chair Cushions. In the back, you can see our NES Reliable Wedding-Style Resin Folding Chairs.

Now Arriving... Bistro Chairs

NES Reliable White Bistro ChairAnother day, another container. This time filled with about 2600 white NES Reliable Bistro Chairs. Again we have back-orders which we will be looking to fill, and we've been making phone calls to customers who are eagerly awaiting their new chairs. If you haven't heard from one of our sales reps and you have some chairs on back-order, give us a call. One of our sales reps would be more than happy to help you

This container is far and away the easiest container to unload. Our factory wraps four stacks of chairs together and then loads them onto the container using pallet jacks. That means that we can use our pallet jacks to take them off the container, which we did in about 90 minutes. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get the now-empty container picked up until much later in the day which made shipping difficult.

Unable to get a lot of orders out the door, our shipping and receiving team spent most of the day restacking the chairs so that they could fit into 8 foot trailers and checking for any defective chairs. We rarely see any bad chairs, but it's good to grab them before we ship them across the country.

We aren't anticipating any of our other containers to arrive this week, but we should be getting 2 or 3 containers next week, including a small container of porcelain. Porcelain is one of the few items where we don't fill the container to the roof with product. We tend to max out on weight when the porcelain is 3 to 4 feet high. Lots of small, heavy boxes, filled with fifty or sixty different products which are all intermixed makes for a long day for the shipping team.

Each container that arrives in our warehouse fills holes that have developed in our inventory. If you called earlier this year and were told that a product was out of stock, feel free to send us an email or to give us a call to find out when things will be back in stock. We'd be happy to get you a quote or answer any questions that you may have.

Now Arriving... Tables and Chairs
NES Reliable 32 Inch Tall Plastic Folding Cocktail Table

We just received the first of eight containers that we are expecting this month in our docks. This container, like every other container we receive was loaded to the bursting point with NES Reliable Plastic Folding Chairs and NES Reliable Round Plastic Folding Cocktail Tables.

Over the next few days, our sales team will be going through our back-orders and making calls to people who ordered chairs and tables when they were out of stock. I know we have a hefty backlog of High Plastic Folding Cocktail tables to go out so both our warehouse team and our sales team will be busy. We do try to call everyone before we ship out backorders, so if you haven't heard from our sales team, please don't hesitate to give us a call to see what the status of your order is.

If you've placed an order for a product that is currently on backorder, we try to let everyone know when containers have arrived using Facebook and Twitter. We hope that you'll like/follow us and contribute to the conversation.

In hopes of contributing to the converstaion, over the next two or three months, National Event Supply will be sticking to a more regular blogging schedule. We have exciting things planned. We'll be introducing product videos, examples of our products in action, and we will be looking for feedback on new products that we are thinking about adding. We hope that you will follow along, contribute to conversation and find it of value.

See you around!

Resin Chiavari Chairs in Stock!

We've just received our second container of Resin Chiavari Chairs and are in the process of unloading them. When we receive a container of product in the dock everything slows as we try to unload product as quickly as we can. Today is no exception.

Resin Chiavari Chairs on Container

So what happens at National Event Supply when we are scheduled to receive a container of Resin Chiavari Chairs? Just after we open, a truck with our container will begin backing into our loading dock. After we've confirmed that the numbers on the container and on the shipping seal match the numbers we received from our factory, the driver will cut off the seal and open the doors. He then backs the container into our dock, disconnects his rig and heads back to the yard so he can deliver another container to someone else.

As you can see from the first picture, we pack the container as full of product as we can. In the case of the Resin Chiavari Chairs, there are 100 boxes on the container. Each box is 104" tall and holds 10 Chiavari Chairs, and as many as 17 Chiavari Chair Cushions. This allows us to import 1000 Resin Chiavari Chairs on a container, and reduce our per unit shipping cost. This translates into lower prices on the chairs for you, our customers.

As they unload the container, our warehouse team keeps track of how many cases they unload. On this container, we brought in four different colours of Resin Chiavari Chairs, and we need to be sure that we have received what we were supposed to. Once the container has been unloaded and swept out, it's time for the warehouse team to start prepping the Chiavari Chairs for shipment to our customers.

Resin Chiavari Chairs Ready for Shipping

The next thing the warehouse team needs to do is break down the boxes, and stack the chairs for shipping. This is necessary because the 104" boxes will not fit inside a trailer that has only 96" of clearance. It's also at this point that the warehouse team begins sorting the cushions by colour and material and counting them as they are put away. This is the part of the process that takes the most time as we have to open every box, remove all the cushions, and then restack the chairs into stacks of seven. Why seven, you ask? Seven is the highest we can stack the chairs on a pallet and still be able to ship them across Canada.

Here are some stacks of Mahogany Resin Chiavari Chairs ready for shipment. They're all wrapped up in foam wrapping, and in this case covered with our NES Chiavari Chair Storage Covers for extra protection. A little later today, when the container has been removed from the dock, a truck will come and take them to their new home in Southwest Ontario.
