NES at the Alberta Foodservice Expo 2012 (Part 1)

Alberta Foodservice Expo 2012The NES Trade Show team was off to Edmonton Saturday, where they linked up with Dale, Will, and Kevin of our Alberta-based sales team to set up for the 2012 Alberta Foodservice Expo. Once we got everything onto the show floor, we managed to get the booth set up in about four hours and make sure that everything would be ready to go for the Sunday Morning start. After finishing up the set-up, I headed out into Edmonton to explore and to get a bite to eat.

While I was walking down 118th Avenue, I came across the Kaleido Family Arts Festival. This weekend-long festival features music, dance, theatre, film, literary and visual arts all in a four block stretch of 118th Avenue between 90th and 94th Streets. There were musicians playing, and numerous street vendors showing and selling their hand-made sculptures, paintings, and other unique pieces. Lots of families with young children were having a good time and there was just a great vibe in the air. It certainly didn’t hurt that the evening weather was also fantastic.

Injera with Various DishesI continued along 118th Avenue to the corner of 95th Street and decided to have dinner at Habesha Ethiopian & Eritrean Cuisine for some authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean food. This was the first time I had ever had Ethiopian or Eritrean cuisine and it was quite the adventure. Not really knowing what to order, I decided to ask the waiter what he would recommend. He brought me a sampling of menu items which consisted of a variety of meats (some spicy, some not), specially seasoned potatoes, and a mixed vegetable/salad on a large platter that was covered with pita-like flatbread called Injera. The meats and potatoes were in small fruit nappy bowls (each about 5 ½ ounces) while the mixed vegetable salad was piled onto the middle of the Injera. The waiter then said dig in. It didn’t take me to long to figure out that this meant I was to eat everything with my hands and use the Injera to scoop up the food. After watching my neighbour at the next table, I quickly dumped all my bowls of meat and potatoes onto the Injera bread and salad and began to dig in.

I found my dinner experience most enjoyable and would highly recommend anyone who has a little adventure in their spirit to go for what I found to be one of my most unique and enjoyable dinners of the past summer. I would also agree with the 4 ½ out of 5 rating that Trip Advisor gives this restaurant. I should add that if you have trouble with smoke, you may find it difficult to stay in the restaurant. During my time many of the patrons were smoking from Hookah’s and many other patrons were waiting for a Hookah to come available.

NEW Wing Bowls and Slanted Bowls

Welcome back to the third and final part of our three part blog series on the new porcelain items that we have recently added to our wide range of porcelain dinnerware. In this final installment I would like to introduce you to five new products that are fantastic presentation pieces designed to make your table-top pop. Today, I am pleased to introduce our three new Wing Bowls as well as two new sizes of Sloped Bowls.

11.5 and 13.5 Inch Slanted Bowls

We have offered an 8.5 inch sloped bowl for about 2 years now and when customers found them, we would frequently be asked about the availability of larger-sized sloped bowls. To meet this interest we are now stocking 11.5 inch and 13.5 inch diameter sloped bowls. The three bowls are all part of the same line, allowing you and your customers to mix and match the bowls without having to worry about differences in shape or colour. The larger bowls are perfect for serving bowls for items like salads and rolls, while the smaller bowl is perfect for items like personal salads and condiment serving bowls.

8.25, 10.25, and 12.25 Inch Wing Bowls

The wing bowls offer a unique shape that can be used in a variety of applications. Each size is ideal for something different ranging from a small appetiser in the 8.25 inch bowl to a mixture of fruit in the 12.5 inch Bowl. Both the wing bowls and the slanted bowls are made of our highly durable porcelain which makes them great for use in the commercial environments including restaurants, banquet halls, party rental companies, and caterers. The bowls are currently available in 8.25, 10.25, and 12.5 inch sizes, ensuring that you have the right bowl for your customers' needs.

NEW Coffee Mugs and Personal Teapot

In this, the second part of our three part blog series I am going to introduce you to a number of new products. These products include three new coffee mugs as well as a personal size teapot.

3 Non-Stacking Hotelier Mugs

Like the Cappuccino Cups I wrote about in the last posting, the Coffee Mugs have a classic mug look. The large handle makes them easy to hold, and the three sizes allow you to offer a porcelain mug to customers that decide to eat in, no matter what size coffee they order. They are made of highly durable porcelain which means they will be able to stand up to daily use in a commercial environment. The three sizes available are a 10oz mug (H3060), 16oz mug (H3061), and 20oz mug (H3062). These sizes were chosen because they are among the most popular in the industry. The Starbucks Venti size is 20 ounces, Grande size is 16 ounces and Tall is 12 ounces while Tim Horton’s Large is 20 ounces, Medium is 14 ounces and small is 10 ounces.

H4020 Personal Tea Pot

The Personal Size Teapot on the other hand is perfect for serving bagged tea, loose leaf and specialty teas. The small size allows you to provide each customer with their own teapot, giving them the ability to properly steep the tea prior to serving, further enhancing their experience. The personal size teapot holds 16oz, the perfect size for a single serving.

NEW Cappuccino and Espresso Cups

Cappuccino Bowls

At National Event Supply, we are constantly looking for new products that our customers will be interested in. Our search ranges from folding tables and a wide range and style of chairs to dinnerware, glassware, flatware, and more. Today is the start of a three part blog series that will cover the many new porcelain dinnerware items we are introducing, starting with our new Cappuccino and Espresso Cups.

In an effort to expand our product offering for our cafe, coffee shop, and restaurant based customers, we are introducing several new Cappuccino style cups and saucers into our Hotelier Dinnerware line. Based on the classic Cappuccino style cup, our Cappuccino cups are beautifully styled making them perfect for specialty drinks ranging from a Latte to Hot Chocolate and of course Cappuccino. Additionally the classic styling is maintained through to the Espresso Cup which allows you to keep a consistent look on your table.

Our Cappuccino Cups are available in three purpose built sizes 12 oz (H3070), 16 oz (H3071), and 20 oz (H3072), while the Espresso Cup is available in one convenient 4 oz (H3069) size. Additionally saucers are sold separately for all cups which gives you added buying flexibility. Furthermore the 16oz and 20oz cups use the same saucer which allows you to reduce your purchasing costs over the long term.
